Goal and Objectives
The HSE International Advisory Panel on Statistics is a joint advisory body that was established to promote the teaching of statistics and foster the development of statistical research at this university.
The HSE management decided to establish the International Advisory Panel on Statistics in 2011 and tasked it with the following:
- Advise on developing a strategy of statistical education and research in economic and social statistics;
- Assist in developing a list of relevant curriculla and defining their content;
- Engage leading foreign statisticians in collaboration with the HSE;
- Facilitate agreements between the HSE with foreign educational centers on the teaching of statistics, the exchange of students and other areas of cooperation, including double degree programmes.
Chairman of the Panel, Dr. Misha Belkindas (U.S.) is a renowned statistician who worked at the World Bank from 1992 until 2011, where he managed the Development Data Group. He was responsible for implementing large-scale capacity building programmes for the statistical offices, such as the International Comparison Programme. Currently, Dr. M.Belkindas is the Managing Director of the nonprofit Open Data Watch, dedicated to supporting the global development of statistics and increasing its openness.
The Council operation is by remote communication. Face to face meetings or teleconferences are held when necessary.
